Frequently asked questions
Find quick answers to common questions about Permission Trail — what browser data websites store, how the extension works, and how to manage your account.
What is Permission Trail?
Permission Trail is a browser extension that helps you see and manage data websites store on your device — including cookies, local storage, IndexedDB, cache, and more.
It doesn't just show you what's saved — it also allows you to instantly revoke or delete stored data from websites, removing trackers and giving you full control over your digital footprint.
What data can websites store on my device?
Websites can store several types of data in your browser without you knowing: cookies, local storage, session storage, IndexedDB databases, cache storage, service workers, and form data. Permission Trail reveals all of these in one dashboard so you can see and delete them.
How does the free plan work?
The Free Plan allows you to remove trackers from up to five websites — one cleanup per site. This helps you test the extension and understand what data websites store locally.
Once you reach that limit, you can upgrade to Premium for unlimited revokes and access to upcoming privacy features.
What do I get with Premium?
Premium users enjoy unlimited revokes, removing any limit on how often they can clear cookies, caches, or local data.
Premium also includes the notification system, so you can receive tracker alerts and quickly delete a website's trackers directly from the notification. Subscribing also unlocks future updates and early access to new features.
How does the Premium notification system work?
Premium users can open Notification settings to turn alerts on or off and set a minimum tracker threshold.
When notifications are enabled, Permission Trail alerts you only when a site meets or exceeds that threshold. From within the notification, you can then remove that website's trackers straight away.
Does Permission Trail work on Chrome and Edge?
Yes. Permission Trail is available as an extension for both Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. Install it from the Chrome Web Store and it works on both browsers.
Do you collect my browsing data?
No. Permission Trail never collects or stores your personal browsing data. All analysis happens locally on your device.
Each user gets an anonymous ID to securely sync with Supabase for login and historical tracker data. Supabase only stores non-personal details such as your account username and total tracker counts — we never store your password or browsing history.
How do I delete all website data from my browser?
Install Permission Trail, open your dashboard, and click Delete All. You can add trusted websites to an exclusions list so their data is never removed. Premium users can delete data for unlimited websites; free users can clean up to five sites.
How can I cancel my Premium subscription?
You can cancel anytime by clicking your profile and selecting Manage Subscription, which opens your Stripe customer portal.
Once cancelled, Premium remains active until the end of your billing cycle, after which your plan reverts to the free version. If you have any issues, use the Contact page and we can help directly.
